If You Needed Me
Kira Boyer, If You Needed Me, size. AR, acrylic, poster paper. 2019.
This AR piece conveys the feeling of watching someone you love deteriorate before your eyes and feeling completely hopeless in your ability to save them. During the winter of 2019 I watched my grandmother slowly be taken by cancer. I wanted more than anything to ease her sufferring and yet there was nothing I could do. In this piece a hand reaches out to save the floating body and just as they are about to reach the body, gravity pulls the body down and out of reach. The AR intersects with the static print in an effort to reveal these intense emotions that are often difficult to convey on the surface.
